Kudos to the Obama administration for admitting they don't have the intelligence to connect the dots. Now...do they have the intelligence to fix the problem? See Airport Body Scanners at hardluckstudios.net/blog for more on this topic.

Several items of interest have been in the news lately on this topic since our "leaders" in Washington are finally admitting (after much protest by the people and a slide in their poll numbers) that steps taken so far to accomplish an economic recovery for the nation has not really accomplished a recovery in the job market. Finally realizing that they can't hope to recover support from their political bases while a large portion of these same bases are without the means to put food on the table or pay the rent, they are now promising to give some consideration to the matter and to start actively seeking solutions to the problem. I have an option that I'd like them to seriously consider:
Going Green

I know that it's not a popular option for everybody out there, but it does have an already proven track record for working. Many European nations are already making innovations in green technology and their economies and job markets are making a healthier and speedier recovery than our own. Even China has jumped on the green band wagon and the last I heard, their economic recovery is jumping ahead of our own. The other day I heard an economics expert pointing out that historically our nation hasn't saved its way out of a recession, we have innovated and educated our way out of it. Examples given were the technology for travel to the moon and the military's development of the internet. Both led to a whole host of private sector products that are now well integrated into our daily life. India has recognized this and they now have an entire educational system to graduate engineers that includes graduating the students directly into innovative technological jobs. As for our own country, well, it appears that we currently aren't graduating enough engineers to fill what innovative positions we may now have or that we may create in the future. (see CBS news for full details on this)

So why not at least take a good look into developing green technology as a means to solve unemployment? Find out how it's working for other countries and build our own model? Revamp and rejuvenate our education system in the process? And, hey, there is that matter of needing to switch off fossil fuel usage in a timely manner to avoid rising sea levels that will displace a whole lot of people worldwide. What an expensive matter that one will be for our future generations to tackle!
As always, your own ideas about working on the jobs issue are welcome!

Stop Bailed Out Banks from Paying Excessive Bonuses

This is one news story that I know many of us are weary of seeing over and over again when we turn on the evening news. In fact, recent polls suggest that many of us are angry over the matter, and justifiably so since main street has yet to receive its Washington bailout. And so far our "leaders" have only paid lip service to the issue, agreeing that it is wrong, but never quite enacting any measures to halt excessive performance bonuses to corporate executives whose poor job performances created the financial crisis that has left more Americans than ever unemployed. To make matters worse, I just saw a report this week stating that the cost of sending the American delegation to the recent climate convention in Copenhagen added up to over 1 million dollars and included $2200.00 per night hotel rooms. So I couldn't help but think that the pot may be calling the kettle black when it comes to our "leaders" reported outrage at bank executives. But, that's another story.

While listening to last night's state of the union address, I heard President Obama suggest that it might be time to try using a little common sense in solving important issues that our nation is now facing. I think that this is a great idea, and it made me realize that there is one thing that each American can do to ensure that banks quit paying out big bonuses to themselves while leaving their customers to suffer with foreclosures and lack of loans to keep their businesses running. It's simple, really:
Take your money and your business to another bank that doesn't reward its top executives for poor performance. It may require a little research on your part to find a more honest bank, but if there was a mass exodus of customers from the banks that continue to engage in shady business practices, wouldn't they have to change their ways before you put them out of business? I'd love to hear your opinion and ideas.
